Hatchet 3 was the horror film of the Hatchet trilogy. It follows the murderous adventures of Victor Crowley across Louisiana's Honey Island Swamp. Kane Hodder plays Victor Crowley, Brian Quinn portrays Deputy Winslow, Rileah vanderbilt portrays Misty.



The strengths of the film lie in its practical special effects. Hatchet 3 uses a majority of makeup effects that are practical as well as sets. This is a departure from many horror movies today that rely heavily upon CG effects. It also features some really horrifying moments.

Kane Hodder stands out as an intimidating villain. The cast provides a solid performance. The dialogue is sufficiently campy and witty to be reminiscent of a classic 1980s slasher film at moments. There are instances of humor in the film which add humour to bloody action.

Due to the budget being small (1 million dollars) most of the locations are duplicates from previous films. Hatchet 2's boat house was only used once and the rest of the footage feels like it was duplicated from previous films. Hatchet or Hatchet2 may feel it's a familiar film.

Overall, I was impressed by Hatchet 3 even though it was very similar to previous installments in the series. (blog post) It also provided plenty of gory thrills and some entertaining performances by the actors.
